How To Connect PS4 or Xbox One To Mobile Hotspot

Do you know how to connect PS4 or Xbox One to mobile hotspot? If you don’t, then this is the only guide you need. The PlayStation 4 was released in 2013, and came with a slew of modern technologies that were designed to make gaming as fun as possible.

Sony made a notable change from the previous iteration of its flagship console as it announced that the online service, known as PlayStation Plus this time, was going to be available for a fee. So, to play online, you needed to have access to PlayStation Plus, along with a stable internet connection.

Gaming has come a long way since the days of old, and the future of gaming is probably going to be defined by availability to connect online. If you take a look at the back of the PlayStation 4 where all the ports are located, you will find one for the Ethernet cable as well. The Ethernet cable has been the standard in terms of networking technology for several decades, and while the performance has improved dramatically, the connectors have still remained the same. So, if you want, you can easily connect to your home internet network by plugging in an Ethernet cable, also known as a LAN cable, into your PlayStation 4. The process once you connect is pretty simple; you just need to go to settings and search for the network settings.

Then, you need to decide whether you want to add the network settings in a custom fashion or if you want the PlayStation 4 to detect the network settings automatically. Whichever one you choose, it should not take you more than a few minutes to establish a seamless connection between your PlayStation 4 and the internet. Once you are done, you can just “test the network connection” through the Network settings page and decide whether it’s working smoothly or not.

But What If There’s No Ethernet?

However, there are many people who don’t have a direct connection from their router to their PlayStation 4. That’s a common problem, because if the router is kept in a separate room, it’s obviously going to be difficult for you to find an Ethernet cable big enough to stretch it all the way. Not only that, but you will also need to make a small hole through the wall before you can pass the cable from one part of the room to another.

While the best way to create a seamless connection to the PlayStation services is to connect it via the Ethernet cable, the company understands that most people simply don’t have the tools available to install one. In that case, the PlayStation also supports Wi-Fi access. The PlayStation features state of the art Wi-Fi support that is not only fast, but also pretty smooth.

All you have to do is select the wireless option when looking for a new connection on your PlayStation 4, and it’s going to show you all the available connections. You can then select the Wi-Fi network in your house and type in the password, and you will be connected to the Wi-Fi right away.

Why Is Wi-Fi Not the Best Option?

The reason for which you should consider playing through your Ethernet connection is because it gives you an uninterrupted connection. The cable connection is always a better choice because it’s direct and because you can decide how much bandwidth you want to prioritize for your PlayStation 4 as compared to the other devices. Many routers also have a set of preferences that prioritize speeds over the Ethernet cable as compared to the Wi-Fi.

Obviously, there are going to be several devices connected to your home Wi-Fi, so the speed is going to be distributed. This is still going to be the case with the Ethernet cable, but you won’t have to worry about signal drops or dead zones in the house. If there is even a slight delay when you are gaming, you will notice a massive dip in your experience, and it’s going to be marred by problems. That is one of the reasons why you should always play with an Ethernet connection instead.

How To Connect PS4 To Mobile Hotspot

Because the Playstation supports Wi-Fi connectivity, it also supports Mobile hotspots. If your router continues to fail and doesn’t provide a seamless connection, you can simply connect it via your mobile hotspot. First of all, you need to set up a hotspot on your device.

To do that, go to settings and mobile data, and then click on a personal hotspot. From there, turn it on. Set a Wi-Fi password for your mobile device, and then check the name of the hotspot, along with the details that you are going to use on your Playstation 4.

Once you have set up the mobile hotspot and turned it on, you then need to create a connection with your PlayStation 4. To do this, go to the network settings, and then select “Set Up Internet Connection.”

From there, select the option that says “use Wi-Fi.” Choose the Easy option instead of Custom, and it’s going to give you a list of all the available Wi-Fi networks in your area. Select the one that you set up earlier through your mobile, and you are good to go.

Once you add the password, the connection will be created, and you will see the name of your PlayStation 4 on the list of connected devices on your mobile phone. This confirms that the PlayStation 4 is now connected to your mobile hotspot and you can now play games.

However, you need to keep in mind that the PlayStation 4 uses a considerable amount of data, and it won’t be long before you get a notification on your phone that you are running out of mobile data. To prevent that from happening, you will need to purchase a hefty data bundle, especially if you plan on playing on your PS4 online on a regular basis. Otherwise, it’s best to stick with a direct wired connection for the long run when playing online.
